There are significant differences between traditional techniques and laser liposuction. The tools of laser liposuction are much smaller than traditional liposuction and therefore require smaller incisions to perform the surgery. There are also significant differences in pricing since the scale of treatments are often very different as the laser technique is better for the removal of smaller amounts of fat. As a result of the difference in tools and scale, there is a greatly reduced risk and severity of side effects resulting from the surgery. The reduction in risks and complication in turn makes the recovery period much shorter and less painful for the patient.
As far as the equipment utilized, the liposuction laser is guided through a small fiber optic. The heat generated by the laser is used to literally melt the fat and the liquefied fatty substance is then removed by a suction tube called a cannula. The tools are much smaller which makes the entire procedure a more precise way to target fatty tissue while leaving the other neighboring tissue relatively untouched.
The smaller scale of the procedure often means a lot less anesthesia is required. This provides a significant cost saving in that department for the patient which includes the administration of the drug as well. But since the tools are smaller, the fat is removed at a much slower rate albeit more accurately. The newer equipment also has to be priced into each patient’s bill so the cost of laser lipo is quite comparable to traditional liposuction in relative terms.
But probably the greatest benefit of laser liposuction is the reduction in common risks associated with liposuction surgery. Things like excessive blood loss and infection to the incision area are greatly minimized since the laser is more accurate causing less damage to blood vessels around the area and the incision is much smaller. This allows for faster recovery times so the patient can get back to their daily routine and their lives much more quickly.
