If there was a single best acne treatment, there would only be one product on the shelf at your local drug store. Unfortunately, this is far from the case, and there are hundreds of different choices for acne treatments. This happens because of all of the different types of skin that people have, and when multiplied by all of the degrees of sensitivity, there is a huge need for different products. In this post I want to share some tips for how to find the one that works best for you and your skin.
The first step is to figure out what your skin type is. I would imagine that you already have an idea, but if you don't now is the time! After you wash your face, check how your skin looks in an hour. If it's dry, you probably have dry skin, oily skin will have regained much of the oil after an hour, and balanced skin will look the same. Some people will have a combination of skin types, so a treatment that is fairly mild is a good start.
Once you have an idea of your skin type, you can start looking at treatments for getting rid of acne. Match what the product says for with your skin type. The first one that you try out might not work well, but you are now in the process of narrowing down the field. It's important to give an acne treatment at least a bottle/jar/tube worth before giving up on it because it takes time for the medication to take effect. Once you've given one treatment a fair shot, use its results to decide what type is next. If it didn't do anything, look for something stronger. If it dried your skin out, find a treatment that is milder.
Following this process takes a bit of time, but in the end you will find the treatment that will clear up your acne very well. It isn't the easiest way, but it is one of the most effective!
