Getting tattoos has become more and more popular over the years.  It has become especially popular in the last couple of years due to some cable television programming that focus' on the tattoo subculture.  The two shows I'm referring to are Miami Ink and Taboo.  More and more people from all walks of life are getting tattoos now day's as a result of these shows bringing the tattoo culture into mainstream television.

Some people are the do-it-yourself type of individuals and would like to know how to give themselves tattoos or give their friends tattoos.  Many of these individuals have made their homemade tattoo guns and use homemade tattoo ink to give their buddies tattoos in their grandma's basement or garage.

If you are going to try to give a tattoo or you would like to learn how to be a tattoo artist, it's a good idea to get some professional training.  At least make sure that you use professional grade tools.  There are several tattoo kits on the market that contain everything you need to do a tattoo properly.  These tattoo kits contain instruction manuals, instructional videos or DVD's, a tattoo gun with plenty of needles, tattoo ink, and several stencils.

With a DIY tattoo kit, you will be much more likely to get good results then if you simply use a tattoo gun made out of the toy car motor and a nine volt battery.

If you decide to use these tattoo kits, be sure that you don't reuse the needles.  This is a sure way to spread infectious disease if you tattoo yourself and then your buddy or vice versa. It's also wise to make sure that you thoroughly disinfect all of your equipment with alcohol swabs after doing a tattoo.  Professional tattoo shops have expensive ovens called autoclaves that sterilize the the tattoo equipment to hospital standards between each use.
